Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do we have to implement the Cure Violence approach to receive training?

No. You do not need to implement the Cure Violence approach to benefit from CVG training or technical assistance. We work with CVI programs using a range of approaches and can strengthen existing violence prevention efforts without requiring organizations to change their overall program model. We also adapt our training and expertise for other types of violence, settings, and workforces where the skills we teach are relevant.

How long is the training?

Most core training packages are approximately five days, but there is no one-size-fits-all format. We can combine modules, adjust the length, and develop a training package around your team’s roles, experience, goals, and needs.

Who is the training for?

We train people at every level of violence prevention work—from frontline staff to organizational and government leadership. Training can be designed for Violence Interrupters, Outreach Workers, hospital responders, supervisors, program managers and directors, community partners, city agencies, elected officials, and others involved in preventing violence. We tailor the content and level of training to the people in the room and the work they need to do.

Can we receive technical assistance without purchasing a training package?

Yes. Training and technical assistance can be provided together or separately. If you need help with a particular challenge, CVG can work with you to identify what support would be most useful and provide assistance in the areas where we have relevant expertise.

We are interested, but we don't have funding yet. Can you still help?

Yes. You do not need to have every piece in place before talking with us. A good first step is to schedule a conversation. We can learn what you are trying to accomplish, help you understand possible next steps, and discuss how CVG may be able to support you as your plans develop.

Can you customize the training for our program?

Yes. Customization is a major part of how we work. We can adapt the training to your program, staff roles, local environment, experience level, challenges, and priorities rather than asking your team to fit into a standard package.

Can you help us determine what training we actually need?

Yes. You do not need to know which modules or training package to request before contacting us. We can talk with you about your program, staff, current challenges, and goals and recommend the combination of training and technical assistance that makes the most sense.

Where can the training take place?

Training can be delivered in your city, at CVG trainings in Chicago, or virtually, depending on the content and needs of your team. We can help determine which format—or combination of formats—will work best.

Can you train an entire organization, not just frontline staff?

Yes. In many cases, the strongest approach is to build knowledge and skills across multiple levels of an organization. We can train frontline staff, supervisors, program leadership, partner organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders, with content tailored to each audience.

Do you provide support after the training is over?

Yes. CVG can provide ongoing technical assistance, coaching, problem-solving, and implementation support after training. This allows teams to bring real situations and challenges back to experienced CVG staff as they put what they learned into practice.

Can you help with a specific problem even if we don't need a full training?

Yes. Sometimes an organization does not need another training—it needs experienced help solving a particular problem. CVG can provide targeted technical assistance around program implementation, supervision, staffing, safety, violence interruption, outreach, partnerships, data, community engagement, and other areas within our expertise.

Can your training be adapted for work outside traditional community violence intervention programs?

Yes. The skills and methods behind CVG’s training have relevance well beyond a traditional community-based CVI program. We have experience adapting training and technical assistance for different forms of violence, different environments, and different types of workers. We work with organizations to determine which elements are most useful and how they should be applied in their setting.
